Born in Ayo El Grande in the Mexican state of Jalisco, Javier Bernal De Le Paz came to the U.S. in 1986 at age 16. Taking his first job picking apples in California, through dedication and hard work he entered the food service business, worked his way up and eventually began operating his own family-owned Mexican restaurants.

Bernal's father and our restaurants' namesake, Don Felipe Bernal, was a huge influence in our lives and our success, instilling the values of humility, kindness and work ethic. Our mural of Don Felipe was painted by Flint artist Armando Fernandez in honor of his memory, following his death in a traffic crash in 2016.
